John Pickard has been working professionally in television, theatre, film and radio since he was 12. His first major role was Neil Timpson in BBC’s Grange Hill, swiftly followed by the role of David Porter in another hugely successful television series for the BBC 2 point 4 Children, which received up to 22 million viewers per episode in its heyday. John always embraces the opportunity of working within theatre as he believes its where he is often challenged the most.. From no less than four works of Shakespeare, including playing Romeo in Romeo and Juliet opposite Kellie Bright at the Stafford Gatehouse Theatre to family friendly comedy characters in high profile pantomimes across the UK. He greatly enjoyed playing the role of Joey in Saxon Court at the Southwark Playhouse as well as George in Same Time, Next Year at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon. John returned to the television to play the role of Dominic Reilly in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, where he had the pleasure of acting against his real life brother Nick Pickard. in 2013, After which he returned to the theatre once again having decided to embark on the following five consecutive fringe productions James in Writebites at Upstairs at The Bell, Trevor in Aphrodite Blugs at New End Theatre, Hampstead, Ben in Stroke Me at Finborough Theatre, Earls Court, Colin in Saved at Octagon Theatre, Bolton, and Morton in An Enemy of the People at the Playhouse Theatre. More recently serious drama has enticed John back into working in front of the camera once again when he was invited to play the role of Anthony Simms, an alcoholic teacher in BBC’s Casualty, PC Keiran Maguire in ITV’s The Bill, and a vulnerable kidnapper Vince in the film Quis Pro Quo. From time to time John also enjoys working behind the camera where he has successfully written and produced his own works on a number of occasions.
